Beautiful Things & Red Shoes

#1
Dorothy´s ruby slippers.
Actually they were described as silver shoes, but with Technicolor rising and it´s raving possibility to make colours shine on the silver screen, the MGM creators decided to make them ruby red. I really belive that every little girl wants to
wear  a pair those at some point in her life ;)

#2
a Wizard of Oz tribute for the Fashion Week 2008 in New York
where designers such as Manolo Blahnik and Christian Louboutin recreated Dorothy’s ruby slippers using Swarovski crystals.

speaking of the colour red, shoes and technicolor...

The Red Shoes
(1948)

an interesting film. visionary in its setting & background pictures, which
tend to transform in quite wonderful dream-like landscapes.
nevertheless I was quite puzzled after I´ve finishes watching this technicolour feast of bursting colours and couldn´t help myself but thinking of another motion picture. one that made quite an impression on the world audience lately...speaking of Black Swan and striking similarities between these two films.

  • which brings me to the last point:

  • how to make your own pair of ruby slippers?
  •  (such as heels, ballerinas or Mary Jane's)
  • red paint, glitter, sequins
  • hot glue gun
  • step 1:
find the perfect pair of shoes.
  • (just bought this pair on ebay. lets hope my determination to turn them into Ruby slippers
does not vanish by the time I get them.)
    step 2:
paint both shoes red. the type of paint to use depends on the fabric content of the shoes.
  • of course it is quite easier if your perfect pair is already red. for once it makes them
  • a little more perfect & the whole procedure a little less messy ;)

  • step 3:
cover one small section of the shoe in glue. do this in smaller sections so that the glue doesn’t dry before you’ve had a chance to add the glitter.

  • step 4:
cover the glue immediately with red glitter & shake off any excess glitter.
  •  continue gluing section by section adding glitter.
  • let them dry.

  • step 5:
hot glue sequins on after the shoes have dried &  add sequins where there are gaps in the glitter.

..**************..
There´s no place like home &
there are no shoes like Ruby Slippers!
